Choirs of Angels
St Barnabas Cathedral, Derby Road, Nottingham
Saturday 5 November 2011 at 8.00 p.m.
Director: Richard Roddis
Organist: John Keys
The programme included:
- J S Bach: Sanctus (Mass in B Minor)
- Fauré: In Paradisum (Requiem)
- Rachmaninov: Blagosloven yesi (Vespers)
- Whitacre: Lux Aurumque
- Britten: The Company of Heaven
This delightful programme encompassed a whole range of music on an angelic theme. In addition to works mentioned, we sang two settings of Duo Seraphim - the famous one for 3 tenors from Monteverdi's Vespers, and Francisco Guerrero's for 3 choirs. Sir John Stainer's great warhorse for double-choir I saw the Lord rubbed shoulders with Renaissance works by Weelkes & Dering and a recent piece by Jonathan Harvey The Angels, written for King's - and John Keys played a couple of organ solos - something for everyone here!
